Columbia Association
New Way to Play!

Submitted By: Leslie Flynn, General Manager of Columbia Athletic Club

The Columbia Association has a New Way to Play...from stringent cleaning protocols, that include the use of electrostatic sprayers, to individual spray bottles for members and UV fans covering every area of the club.  Columbia Association created a New Way to Play playbook that was shared with every member prior to their facilities reopening.  The facilities include 3 full-service fitness clubs, a mind-body wellness retreat, 2 golf courses, an indoor swim center, ice rink, sports park and 5 tennis clubs with 10 indoor tennis courts, 27 outdoor tennis courts (including 6 Har-Tru courts) and 6 outdoor pickleball courts.

CA's New Way to Play encourages members to be safe by being a CHAMP, which stands for Cleanliness-Hygiene-Attitude-Monitor-Partner.  New signage was created and posted throughout the facilities that clearly indicates all safety measures around cleaning, face mask use and social distancing, as well as reminders on how we can all work together to keep everyone safe.

Now, more than ever, we need to provide a safe place for our communities to boost and maintain their wellbeing, and we can only be successful by collaborating, cooperating and evolving.  We're all in this together!

What Bucket is Your Gym in? See How Your Insights Stack Up

Submitted by: Andi Conti, Director of Marketing Programs

Managing a health club in today’s “new normal” requires having the data and insights required to make the right decisions, so you can continue to grow.

Much like managing a gym amidst a pandemic, there are certain steps and actions that can be executed in order to achieve your greatest potential. The problem for most gyms is that they lack the necessary insight required to make informed decisions that lead them to take the right steps and actions.
Running a gym is tough work, and in some cases, gaining actionable insights from reporting is tougher.
For example, are you able to breakdown revenue sources from member dues and various profit centers? Can you identify trends that allow you to make strategic decisions regarding the future of your business?
If you’re thinking to yourself, “yeah, ok, maybe my reporting could be better,” then stop there. After researching how clubs use reporting, we’ve compiled an 11-question quiz that will bucket you into one of three categories:

  • Your reporting is up-to-par or excellent – seems like you’re on the right track!
  • There’s room for improvement – you’re doing a couple things right but with a few tweaks you could shine.
  • You’re at the bottom compared to most gyms. The only good thing about being at the bottom is that it’s only up from here!

What bucket do you think your gym is in? Take a few minutes and find out by taking our reporting quiz to see how your gym stacks up.
